July in Calgary is one of the most exciting times of the year as it kicks off with the Calgary Stampede. With several free festivals this month, there’s lots of opportunities to bring the family out for loads of fun.

The Calgary Stampede

- Location: Stampede Park
- Price: Grounds admission is $18 for Adults; Children (7-12) and Seniors $9; Children under 6 are free
Bring the whole family out to this globally renowned western rodeo and festival! Enjoy a live show at one of the stages, with headliners like Tim Hicks, The Zac Brown Band, and Classified. Or head over to Nashville North for a boot stompin’ good time all day long. Learn about the traditional ways of First Nation peoples on Treaty 7 land in the Indian Village, which is a longstanding memorable element of the stampede.

The Calgary Folk Music Festival
- Date: July 21st – 24th, 2016
- Location: Prince’s Island Park
- Price: Varying prices per day, 4-day passes and student pricing available
This music festival, in its 37th year, features 70 artists from over 16 countries on 9 stages! Over the 4 day festival, you can see 100+ unique live performances in a beautiful forested retreat among 13, 000 other like minded individuals. In between performances that spark your interest, you will want to enjoy the interactive family area, international craft market, or indulge in the many international culinary masterpieces. Celebrate Latin American culture in downtown Calgary! This free festival is family orientated, and includes many opportunities to learn about and enjoy Latin American culture first-hand! Are you a passionate pet owner? How about an avid animal lover? This event is a fantastic opportunity to include the family member who often gets left behind, your pet! With over 80 exhibitors, live music, and vendors, this is an exciting event you and your pet don’t want to miss! Treat your pet to free samples of food and pet treats. Watch the Running of the Bulls – French and English Bulldog Races – as well as wiener dog races! Be careful you don’t fall in love with one of the many rescues up for adoption, as they are looking for loving families to give them forever homes.
Calgary International Blues Festival
- Date: July 25th – 31st, 2016
- Location: Shaw Millennium Park
- Price: Passes vary depending on day $35-$50, 4 day passes available
One full week of smokin’ hot blues in downtown Calgary! Performances are never-ending and beer tents keep the refreshments flowing. This event is family friendly, but after the kids go to bed there are spectacular dance parties that run all night. This grassroots festival attracts festival goers from all over the world. Inglewood Mainstreet comes alive! Bring all your friends and family out for this free one-day event, take in the performers, and enjoy activities for adults and the whole family. As you can see, July in Calgary has a lot of options; not only for the music lovers and the cowboys but for the whole family!
