7 Can’t-Miss Events at The Stampede This Year

7 CanThe Stampede is a Calgary classic, bringing people not only from all over the province but all over the world. This popular event runs from July 7th to July 16th and houses tons of events, some more well known than others.

Today we are going to take you through the can’t-miss events for this year’s Stampede season!

7 Can1. The Dog-Bowl

This event is a dog lover’s dream, plus it’s fun for the whole family. Using mostly rescue dogs to promote adoption, the Dog-Bowl is located in an outdoor amphitheatre at the Stampede Midway. The dogs perform high energy tricks for an audience, showing off their rockstar skills. This event hosts approximately 2,000 canine lovers per show and offers seats for the late night fireworks. You can even do a meet-and-greet with the stars of the show!

2. Blacksmith Competition

With the show Forged in Fire gaining a steady following, blacksmithing is becoming an interest of many. The scorching Stampede Blacksmith Competition offers ten days worth of educational info for those who want to learn something new. As well, there is a three-day competition with contestants from all over Canada, the United States, and Europe. This is a fast-paced exciting event you won’t want to miss!

3. An Evening with Christine Cushing

Christine Cushing is a popular television personality and Canadian chef. She will be sharing her food tips and tricks with Stampede goers on July 11th at the BMO Centre. This event includes entry to the stampede, a glass of wine, an appetizer and some of her personalized olive oil. For those of you who like to cook, this is a Stampede Event you need to attend.

7 Can4. Midway to Flavour Town

Each year, Stampede organizers push the limits with what foods they choose to showcase. Some of the more out-of-the-box foods to be featured in for Stampede 2017 include ghost pepper pizzas, crispy deep fried chicken feet, and the not-quite-solid, not-quite-liquid rain drop cake. But don’t worry, they’ll also have your usual carnival favourites, some coming with a Stampede twist (such as a metre long hot dog and many varieties of cotton candy). All the foodies will be uniting at The Midway so be sure to check it out.

5. Nashville North

The Stampede is known for bringing the best of country music artists to the Nashville North stage. Starting as early as 11:00 am throughout all ten days, you’re sure to be entertained. Some of this year’s headliners include Neal McCoy, CAM, and The Dead South. Be sure to check for your favourite artists in their list of performers.

6. The Coca-Cola Stage

Much like Nashville North, you can check out some great alternative, rock, and pop artists at the Coca-Cola Stage. With acts like July Talk, Alessia Cara, and The Strumbellas there’s a performance every day that’s sure to keep you grooving.

7. The Wildhorse Saloon

If you’re looking for a place to celebrate, the Wildhorse Saloon will make you want to dust off your dancing boots! They will have a variety of performances such as the Sam Roberts Band with Altameda, and many others still waiting to be announced. As well as, their daily menu features a barbeque kiosk and lunch buffet.

Some of these events may be well known and others will be new adventures for many Stampede-goers. Just be sure to kick up your boots and have a great time at whichever event(s) you choose to attend this season.
